High Quality Green Tea & What it Can Do For You

Drinking green tea has been associated with good health for centuries. Recently, it has become more popular than ever, and with good reason. Far more than a fad drink, green tea has been proven to be a veritable fountain of health.

Green tea contains one of the highest amounts of plant derived antioxidants such as polyphenols and catechins. This gives it a broad spectrum of health benefits. As it’s one of the least processed teas available, its antioxidants are rendered far more effective than that of other teas.

The regular consumption of high quality green tea has been associated with a reduced risk in bladder, breast, skin, esophageal, lung, prostate, and colon cancers. The National Cancer Institute has conducted lab studies in which the polyphenols found in green tea were shown to actually halt the growth of tumors. Polyphenols have also been shown to hinder the development of the enzymes needed for cancer growth.

The antioxidants in green tea are also associated with the reduction of hypertension as well as can help increase HDL (good cholesterol) and lower LDL (bad cholesterol) levels. These antioxidants are also associated with a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke.

For overall health and wellness, green tea contains high levels of the polyphenol EGCG which has powerful antioxidant effects on free radicals. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, creating stronger immune function and response.

Currently research is being done to study the correlation between green tea and its effect on slowing down the development of cognitive disorders. Other studies are being performed to see its possible ability to lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

It is important to remember, that in order to reap the benefits of green tea, you want to opt for a high quality product. Many green tea options on the market today are watered down, not processed correctly, or simply do not contain enough actual green tea to be efficacious.
